Ukrainian operator pumps 2 bcm of Russian gas to EU in January
KIEV, Jan 24 (PRIME) -- Ukraine has pumped 2 billion cubic meters (bcm) of Russian natural gas to the E.U. and Moldova since January 1, and received payment for 4.272 billion cubic meters under the pump-or-pay rule, Sergei Makogon, CEO of Gas Transport System Operator of Ukraine, said on Friday on his Facebook page.
“Without any fanfares, we have already transported 2 billion cubic meters of gas by transit from Russia to countries of the E.U. and to Moldova. It is worth noting that we’ve received payment for 4.272 billion cubic meters, or for 178 million cubic meters per day. This is a result of signing of a new contract based on the European principles and includes the pump-or-pay principle,” he said.
Russia and Ukraine signed a package gas deal on December 30, including a 5-year transit contract. Gazprom guarantees shipment of 65 bcm of gas in 2020 and 40 bcm each following year.
